Red Cliff

Just finished watching Red Cliff.

Cinematography, symbolism, choreography, script; John Woo on peak form.

One for my shelf, methinks.

Igor:
Really very amusing - def-f-f-finitely worth a watch despite the unfortunate saccharine and predictable main plot line. Steve Buscemi gets the oscar from me as the immortal, suicidal, rabbit. Eddie Izzard, John Cleese (briefly) are perfect casting and John Cusak as Igor does a grand job. (I have to say, JC's voice brought up images of Vir (Stephen Furst, Babylon 5) - never noticed the similarity before... ).

Lesbian Vampire Killers:
Utter, utter, puerile shite which was patently written by a boob-obsessed 14yr old with delusions of humour - or an average Sun reader on acid. My advice? Don't bother.
No.
Really.
You'll never get that time back.
Life is too short.

Hmmm

Plot is nothing special.
Acting - ditto.
Too many cuts during action sequences (I made it an average of 2 secs between cuts - v confusing for an old codger like me).

Only redeeming feature is the Gilliam-esque, armour and lighting.

300 is better.

Got to see 300 last night.

Very, very nice SFX and great atmospheric comicbook-style visuals and major amounts of ham (deliberate I hope) in the acting.

I can see it being criticised for being a tad homoerotic in the costume department, but I guess the geography and historical period is correct for that.

Nice to see Gerard (Beowulf) Butler,  David (Faramir) Wenham and Vincent (Eudorus) Regan in there.

Definitely worth seeing, I think.
